What is All-on-4?
In a typical case, a full denture would require 6-8 implant posts to provide adequate support. All-on-4, as the name suggests, can offer the same level of support and stability with only four implant posts. Each post is carefully positioned and angled in a computer-guided surgical procedure, allowing them a more secure hold. The titanium implants fuse to the jawbone, which grants them the durability and security needed to support a full dental arch.
All-on-4 can be used on both the top and bottom jaw, so qualifying patients can enjoy a completely restored set of teeth on as few as eight implants.
What are the Benefits of All-on-4?
This treatment offers several advantages over other teeth replacement options, even standard dental implants. Here are a few of the benefits you can expect:
- Immediate Tooth Replacement: With All-on-4, you receive a provisional set of dentures the day of your implant placement, so you'll have a secure set of teeth as soon as you leave the office.
- Shorter Treatment Time: Since there are fewer implant posts to place, the procedure takes less time than other full-arch restorations might. Healing may also be easier with this treatment, as less of the mouth is impacted by placement.
- Affordability: The reduced number of implant posts also results in lower costs, as there are fewer materials needed and the treatment time is shorter.
Who Qualifies for All-on-4?
While All-on-4 offers a highly effective treatment option, it won't always be the right choice for everyone. Dr. Singh takes the time to consult with you and examine your situation carefully to determine whether it's the right choice for your needs.
Since each case is different, a full exam is needed before we can determine whether you qualify for this treatment. Here are a few of the things we consider during your exam:
Jawbone Strength: To receive implants, your jawbone needs a certain level of thickness and density. If it is brittle or has shrunk due to tooth loss, it won't provide the necessary stability to hold the implants in place with daily chewing pressure. If the jawbone appears too weak, we may evaluate you for a supplemental procedure such as a bone graft to strengthen the bone and make implant treatment viable.
Mouth Shape: The shape of your mouth, and especially your jawbone, plays a huge role in candidacy for All-on-4 treatment. Since the implants need to be placed at a specific location, angle, and depth, certain jaw shapes could make the placement difficult. Dr. Singh will walk you through these specifics and answer any of your questions when discussing whether you qualify.
Oral Health: With any implant treatment, good overall oral health is essential. Gum disease can make treatment especially difficult, as it not only interferes with the treatment process but could lead to jawbone shrinkage. It's vital that we address any signs of gum disease or other health complications before considering All-on-4.
Remaining Teeth: If you have healthy teeth remaining in your smile, keeping these teeth in place is usually considered the best course of action. These teeth offer valuable health benefits, and while dental implants have many lifelike qualities, they are still not a true replacement for natural teeth. Our dentist will examine the viability of remaining teeth to determine whether it is better for your overall health to keep them in place or remove them in favor of a full arch replacement.
Over 65? Your Medicare Benefits May Help with Implant Placement!
Many patients are unaware that Medicare can be used to pay for oral surgery if deemed medically necessary. Dr. Singh is a certified Medicare provider and will work with you to help you qualify for coverage where possible.
At our practice, you may be able to receive All-on-4 treatment with little to no money spent out-of-pocket. Don't hesitate to speak with our team to determine whether you can receive help from Medicare for your treatment!
